CIT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
CITs WILL DEVELOP SKILLS BY...
- Assisting Lead and Assistant Counselors with teaching curriculum
- Participating in camp activities with Lead and Assistant Counselors
- Demonstrating positive communication with campers and counselors
- Knowing and demonstrating ‘DEAN Adventure Camps’ culture Further advancing their handwork skills
- Working as a team Problem-solving creatively
- Gaining and providing feedback on progress
APPLICATION PROCESS

Step 1: Registration
A Counselors in Training (CITs) applicant with their parent or guardian must register for a 3 week long session in the “Register Now” navigation button on the DEAN Adventure Camps Website. The following options for the 2024 season are:

- June 17th to July 12th (NO CAMP from July 1st to 5th)
- July 15th to August 2nd
- August 5th to August 23rd

Step 2: Application
After you register to be considered for the CIT program, you will receive an email containing the following:

- CIT Description.
- CIT Application Form, which must be submitted prior to their scheduled interview
- Interview Scheduling Link providing 30-minute slots to schedule their one required virtual Zoom interview

Step 3: Interview
CITs applicants will meet via Zoom with a full-time staff member of DEAN Adventure Camps. Questions that will be asked during the interview will be geared toward:

- Getting to know the applicant
- Asking questions relevant to a regular camp day
- Giving the applicant the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about the program

Step 4: Decision
A confirmation email will be sent to the applicant and their family 1-2 business days after the interview informing them of acceptance or nonacceptance to the program.
Accepted CITs will receive an offer email containing the following:
- Our CIT Handbook, containing a detailed overview of the CIT Program to review
- An official CIT Offer Letter, which must be reviewed, signed, and returned to confirm their spot in the CIT program
- Any other required forms stated in the CIT Offer Letter
Once we’ve received your signed CIT Offer Letter, we will be thrilled to welcome you into our Counselor in Training (CIT) Leadership Program! In the months leading up to the start of camp, we will keep you updated by email on the Training Schedule and other important dates and information.

Is there any cost associated with applying to be a CIT?
No, the CIT Leadership Program is a free program.

Will CITs be paid during their session?
No, CITs will not be paid. The CITs will be given leadership training and professional development opportunities during their session.

What is the time commitment or schedule for a CIT?
CITs will attend their 3 week long session and will arrive and depart at the same time as campers. CITs can be onsite from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, but must be on site between the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Is lunch provided for CITs?
Yes! Lunch will be provided at no cost and will be eaten with the campers during their allotted lunch time. You can bring your own lunch from home if that is your preference.

What is a CIT responsible for during the day?
CITs will be supporting our instructors in implementing our curriculum and watching over our campers. However, they will not be given sole responsibility for the safety of a camper, nor will they be solely responsible for curriculum taught.

What happens if a CIT has a family vacation scheduled during their CIT session?
We understand that you may have commitments during the summer outside of the CIT program. If you can not attend a week from your session you can still apply. Please inform our camp office if your CIT will not be at camp.

Can CITs be hired in a future summer?
CITs will be taught the skills of what it takes to be a summer instructor for DEAN Adventure Camps. This can lead to employment in a future summer but they will need to apply like any other applicant. Summer employment is not guaranteed for all former CITs.
