Zoom into the adventure of a lifetime! In Big Wheels in the Big City, young architects and drivers combine forces to create an epic urban adventure. Using their imaginations and collaborative skills, they'll build a cardboard cityscape from scratch—skyscrapers, roads, tunnels, and everything in between! As they design and construct their metropolis, builders develop their curiosity as they solve engineering challenges and practice responsibility working safely with tools and materials.
Once their cardboard metropolis is complete, the real fun begins! Campers will hop on their Big Wheels and drive through their newly built city, strengthening their self-regulation as they carefully navigate winding streets, explore hidden alleys, overcome obstacles, and learn the rules of the road. Young city planners build perseverance when construction challenges arise and experience gratitude as they give and receive help from their newfound friends. Big Wheels in the Big City blends imagination, engineering, and excitement. Let's build, drive, and thrive in the coolest cardboard city ever! H Haverford Dates:

Mwa-ha-ha-ha! Step into our lab . . . er, kitchen! In Mad Food Scientist, campers get hands-on with the wild science behind their favorite foods. They’ll discover that every recipe is a mini-chemistry experiment, where a pinch of this and a dash of that can lead to amazing (or hilariously unexpected) results! From mixing baking soda and vinegar to exploring the art of measurement, campers will learn how tiny tweaks make a big difference in taste and texture. Along the way, they’ll develop curiosity as they explore new flavors, perseverance through trial and error, and responsibility as they manage ingredients and tools. By week’s end, they’ll have a lab-tested taste for food science—and a few creative recipes to share at home!

Drop that controller and pick up your pencil! In Mario Kart Racetrack Design, we're bringing everyone's favorite racing game into thrilling reality! Young designers develop their curiosity by exploring how kooky themes like Rainbow Road and Bowser's Castle can inspire real-world tracks and build resilience through the natural cycle of trial, error, and improvement that every engineer faces.
As they craft their courses using 2D and 3D construction techniques, raceway architects deepen their ability to focus on detailed blueprint work and strengthen their collaborative skills while working side-by-side to test and improve their track designs with their newfound friends. Builders develop responsibility as they experiment with cause-and-effect in their creations. By the end of the week, campers will showcase racetracks that Mario (and, of course, Luigi) wishes he could drive! Note: We do not play Mario Kart in this program or with electronics; campers draw from their past gaming experience to inspire their physical creations! H Haverford Dates:

What Goes Into the Cost of Camp?
Choosing the right summer camp involves careful consideration of cost and, of course, the safety and quality of programming. We want to transparently explain why our pricing is set at $735, assuring you that every dollar spent is an investment in an enriching and memorable experience for your child(ren).
We understand that camp costs can differ significantly across the region due to various factors. At DEAN Adventure Camps, our mission and purpose is to offer a high-quality and nurturing environment for your child's growth and development. Below, you can explore some of the specific areas where we invest our financial resources to ensure an exceptional camp experience. While we offer options that cater to different budgets, rest assured that each choice reflects our commitment to providing top-notch quality programming.
FOR OUR FAMILIES:
Lunch & Snacks
As part of our commitment to providing a seamless and worry-free experience, we include all meals, snacks, and beverages in the camp fee. With this inclusive approach, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your child will receive nourishing and delicious meals throughout their time at camp.
Extended Hours for Your Convenience
We understand the demands of family life. Trying to be in seven places at once is not an option. We decided that our camp day would complement more realistic schedules without any additional costs. Our formal camp day runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but we created a flexible drop-off schedule. Now, you can drop off your child(ren) any time between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and pick up any time between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., all for one price.
Credit Card Fees
We understand the convenience of using a credit card and have the option to pay the way you would like. With credit cards, we know fees are a part of doing business, that is why we don’t add additional costs on top of our already set price. The price you see is the price you get.
A Beautiful Location
We are incredibly fortunate to have a strong partnership with Haverford College, which enables us to provide an exceptional camp experience. While we are always mindful of the costs, it's important to note that we chose this location to create a safe, inspiring, and enriching environment for our campers, complete with top-notch security, maintenance, and facilities.

Do Campers Need to Be Toilet Trained To Attend Camp?
Yes, all campers must be fully toilet trained to attend camp. Being fully toilet trained means that campers can independently use the restroom without assistance. This includes:
- Recognizing when they need to use the bathroom.
- Being able to manage clothing on their own.
- Cleaning themselves properly after using the restroom.
- Washing their hands afterward.
Our staff is always available to support and remind campers throughout the day.
If you have any questions or concerns about readiness, feel free to reach out.

Do Campers Swim or Participate in Water Activities?
We are excited to share that campers entering 1st grade and above will have the option to enjoy a daily free swim period, weather permitting at our Haverford, Lawreceville, Laughing Waters & Shelly Ridge locations. Free swimming means this is a time for campers to play and enjoy the water. Swim lessons are currently not offered at this time. Those who decide not to swim can participate in other recess-style activities.
Campers entering Pre-K and Kindergarten will also have the chance to participate in daily water activities, such as slip and slides, water twisters, reusable water balloon games, and more. Water activities are also optional; those who decide not to swim can participate in other recess-style activities.
As part of our commitment to safety and providing a fun experience for all campers, the pool is managed by certified lifeguards and will be supervised by DEAN staff. We will share a detailed overview in mid-May to help you prepare for summer camp. The overview will include swim assessment details, safety protocols, and alternative activities for those who opt out of swimming and water activities.

Julia Yosen
It all began with a conversation about making a quilt for Alex's Lemonade Stand way back in 2006. Julia just moved back to her hometown right outside of Philadelphia after graduating with her BFA from a small liberal Arts school in VT and was looking for her next venture. Through that one conversation, she began her 16-year journey to grow and evolve The Handwork Studio alongside CEO and Founder Laura Kelly, to what it is today.
Julia has dedicated her career to bringing the importance of learning by making to youth through running summer camps, workshops, trainings, artist-in-residence programs, developing curricula, writing patterns, filming tutorials, and leading talks on the importance of handwork programming.
One of Julia's fondest memories of working at The Handwork Studio was in the summers of 2011 and 2012. Julia traveled the country for The Handwork Studio in a Button Mobile with Miss Alisha and Sheepy. They drove, camped, and popped up in schools across the US to teach children the joys and importance of creating. Still, to this day, nothing brings Julia greater joy than watching kids have that "aha" moment when they discover what they are capable of.
Today, Julia has hunkered down in the suburbs of Philadelphia and on the road less, but the adventure is never far away. Julia still loads up the family for an impromptu road trip with her son Asher, rescue pup Onyx, and husband Dave.
