The stage is set, the spotlight is waiting, the makeup palettes and brushes are laid out, and the script is open to page one. From that moment, campers are immersed in the world of performing arts.

Caring counselors create a supportive, safe space and guide the way, and campers decide who they become. Alongside friends, they practice their craft, following the steps of every great performance:

• The Warm-up - Introduce & Connect: Games build trust, listening, and quick thinking so campers feel safe taking creative risks and getting to know one another.
• The Idea - Imagine & Create: Campers dream up a character, a story, or a look, and decide who it is and where it belongs.
• The Craft - Explore & Transform: Campers immerse themselves in their week's program to try acting, movement, dance, storytelling, character building, and makeup techniques. Costume pieces, set elements, and makeup plans turn each idea into a look an audience can see.
• The Technique - Practice and Refine: Small groups build scenes and routines, run them out loud, and revise after notes.
• The Finale - Polish & Finish: Campers sharpen timing, volume, and small details until the work is ready for an audience.

Performing artists depend on each other, and so do campers, who shape every scene, song, and design as a team. Creativity grows as campers invent a character, and each choice about a walk, a voice, or a costume makes the role more believable. Those choices build decision-making skills that carry into everyday life, from planning the day to a big school project. Stepping onto a stage builds confidence. When a color is not quite right or the dance steps are off beat, campers work through the frustration, adjust, and try again, which builds perseverance. The lead counselor and fellow campers offer feedback throughout, so each camper hears what worked and what to try next.

Your child will leave with a stronger speaking voice, a toolkit of performance skills, and friendships built by creating together.

Gathered on the field, newcomers and returning players alike gear up, ready to jump into the game. At DEAN Sports & Games, the only requirement is wanting to play. Counselors teach and step back, and campers take an active role with the calls, the cheering, and the matches.

Each session runs the way athletes train for and play games:

• Warm & Move (The Warm-Up): Movement games get every camper loose and laughing before any skill is taught.
• Learn & Try (The Skill): Counselors show one move, like a throw, catch, or pivot, and campers practice it to learn the skill and use it in the game.
• Play & Adapt (The Practice): Short, small-team games put the moves to work while everyone gets touches on the ball and plays in the game.
• Compete & Play Fair (The Full Game): Teams shuffle, and games move closer to full rules, and campers settle disagreements fairly and show good sportsmanship, win or lose.
• Huddle & Reset (The Debrief): Each session ends with a team huddle where campers share one moment that mattered and one thing to try next time.

Adjusting after a miss is how athletes and students get better at anything. Back at school, that habit shows up when a child asks for help, joins a group of unfamiliar faces, or returns to a hard problem.

Along the way, campers work on encouraging a teammate who missed, taking turns, losing a point without losing their cool, and explaining a call clearly. Lead counselors and teammates give feedback and create moments of reflection so these habits get noticed and named.

The culmination to the week is the moment they have all been waiting for, the Color Games, a celebration for all players to celebrate and showcase their skills. Your child will leave with a few new sports to play, confidence stepping into any group, and friendships beyond the ones they arrived with.

The presser foot lowers, the needle rises and falls in steady stitches, and the fabric feeds forward as your child guides it along. Over the week, campers become sewists, and fabric transforms into stuffed animals, hats, hoodies, bags, and more! Counselors guide and support campers through each technique, with safety built into every step. Campers choose the pattern, the fabric, and the finishing touches.

• The Machine - Thread & Drive: Campers learn to thread, control speed, and sew straight lines, curves, and pivots.
• The Pattern - Choose & Match: Choose the pattern or make your own design! Campers pick a pattern, then fabric, make design choices and get ready to sew.
• The Assemble - Measure, Cut & Sew: They measure, cut, pin, and stitch fabric into their final piece.
• The Polish - Fit & Finish: They check the fit, hem edges, trim loose threads, and test every zipper.

Sewists work side by side, reading patterns like a blueprint to see how each piece fits together. When a seam puckers or a stitch skips, they trace it back to the step that went wrong and fix it. This is where campers build patience by ripping out a crooked seam and sewing it again, and self-control by keeping the pedal slow. They collaborate by holding fabric for a neighbor and grow independent by explaining their choices to the lead counselor and peers, who offer feedback on fit and finish.

The week wraps up, and sewists leave with finished pieces, machine-sewing skills, and the pride and confidence to sew.

Campers walk into DEAN Design & Style Camp and find the workspace ready for action. Fabric bolts line the shelves, thread spools stand in rows, beads and buttons are on display, and pencils and paper are ready for ideas. From that moment, campers become the designer.

Counselors teach each tool, guide each step, and keep every station safe, while campers make the design decisions, embroider the fabric, pick up the crochet hook and cast on the knitting needles, design fabulous jewelry, and make the doll accessories, learning through a designer's process:

• Envisioning & Planning (The Concept): Counselors introduce the project, and campers decide what their piece will look like and sketch it.
• Learning & Making (The Skills): Design and Style programs offer an array of different skills to learn, from beading and weaving to sewing and embroidery.
• Inspecting & Perfecting (The Craftsmanship): Campers tie off knots, snip loose threads, and sew on the wobbly buttons.
• Finishing & Wearing (The Reveal): Campers make the final adjustments so the piece is ready to wear and show.

Like designers, campers gather materials and work side by side, tidying the table as they go. They choose the colors, fabrics, and trims, and work out why a seam puckers, a knot slips, or beads fall. Sometimes that means pulling out a stitch and starting over, or finding a new approach. Each challenge builds lasting habits far beyond camp: planning before you start, following steps in order, and adjusting along the way, whether the task is a multi-step math problem or a project at home.

Your child will leave with safe habits for needles, scissors, and pliers, one-of-a-kind handmade pieces to wear, use, or give, and a new craft to keep practicing on their own.

At DEAN STEAM Camp, campers join a team of fellow innovators to ask why, test solutions, and try again when an idea fails. Counselors guide, and campers decide. Using science, technology, engineering, art and math, campers practice four steps of discovery:

• Wondering & Predicting (The Hypothesis): Every breakthrough starts with asking, “What if?” Kids will look at a problem, use their imagination, and make educated guesses about how to solve it.
• Building & Testing (The Experiment): Science isn’t just reading books; it’s hands-on. Campers will roll up their sleeves to test their ideas through physical builds, chemical reactions, or structural trials.
• Observing & Recording (The Data): Using notebooks, charts, and tools to carefully track their results, noticing what changed and why.
• Tweaking & Evolving (The Iteration): “Failing” is just finding out what doesn’t work! When a test doesn’t go as planned, campers analyze the results, modify their thinking, and try again.

Each storyline sparks curiosity and rallies campers together. They share ideas, divide tasks, and build on each other’s thinking. They weigh evidence, question results, and reason their way to answers. When a plan fails, they adapt and find a new approach.

The method campers practice at DEAN STEAM continues far beyond the camp weeks. A camper who has rebuilt a failed design knows what to do when something doesn’t go as planned. Test an idea, study what happened, and adjust. Your child will leave with a sense of wonder and resilience.

The pots and pans are set and ready for campers to mix, mash, knead, and whip up delicacies they proudly take home to share. In DEAN Culinary Arts Camp, campers discover the art and science of cooking and baking. Our expert counselors guide the fun, showing campers how to run a safe, clean, and high-energy kitchen like a true culinary crew.

Every camper follows the same five steps professional bakers and chefs use:

• The Recipe – Reading & Planning: Campers read the full recipe, check the ingredient list, and plan the order of the steps.
• The Prep - Measuring & Preparing: Campers measure, chop, and set out every ingredient before putting it all together.
• The Method - Mixing & Cooking: Campers mix, stir, chop, sauté, knead, and bake their recipes to completion.
• The Taste Test - Tasting & Adjusting: Campers taste, decide what the dish needs, and fix it.
• The Finish - Plating & Serving: Campers plate their food and present it.

Like chefs and bakers, campers divide the jobs, prep side by side, and clean up as they go. They choose flavors and designs, taste the results, and work out what went wrong when a cake sinks or a recipe doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes that means starting over or finding a new approach. Each challenge we encounter builds habits that last a lifetime. Like writing a great essay and baking a toasty loaf of bread: careful preparation, a pinch of patience, and knowing how to adjust as you go. We turn the kitchen into a lab for confidence, focus, and creativity.

Your child clips on a name tag, picks up a schedule with four stops, and heads out with a new friend. Before the first snack, there is grass on both knees, glue on one thumb, and a story that cannot wait until pickup.

DEAN Trailblazers Camp rotates each camper through four specialties daily. Counselors lead each one, teach safe tool, kitchen, and outdoor trail habits, and stay with their group throughout. Our four pillars, built on the letters in DEAN, guide campers as they learn and grow across every activity:

• Discover - Connect and Grow: Campers find new skills, interests, and friends from the first activity rotation of the week.
• Explore - Experiment and Try: Campers step into all four activities and learn specialized skills and techniques.
• Achieve - Complete and Improve: Campers finish projects, reach the end of the hike, score in the game, and give every task their best effort.
• Navigate - Choose and Plan: Campers learn the ropes in each specialty and see which path fits them, which may lead to a specialty camp next.

Across the daily four activity blocks, campers use one method: try it, check it, adjust it. At school, that habit makes an unfamiliar assignment something to start instead of avoid. Campers show perseverance by sticking with a task that does not work yet, resilience by starting over when the plan doesn’t work out, and friendship by learning and sharing along the way.

Campers practice measuring a cup of flour, identifying a tree, building a bridge, and reading a compass. Your child will leave with a go-to recipe, a piece of art to display, and newfound confidence.

No time is wasted in the DEAN woodworking shop. After a safety and tool demonstration, your child starts building their first project by clamping a board to the bench, picking up a pull saw, and making the first cut. They are on their way! Throughout the week, counselors stay close by to guide and instruct, but campers choose what to build and make every cut themselves. At our camp, your child works like professional woodworkers, following four steps from rough board to finished project:

• Planning and Instruction (The Plan): Woodworkers pick their project, read the instructions, and follow the directions that will take them from start to finish.
• Measuring & Marking (The Layout): Woodworkers follow the oldest rule in the shop: measure twice, cut once. Using a combination square, rulers, and a pencil to get the dimensions just right. And when a piece comes out short or a joint splits, they find the cause, re-measure, and cut again. Your child learns to check their work before committing, and to be resilient when things don't go as planned.
• Cutting & Joining (The Build): Woodworkers saw, drill, and fasten each part, then glue, screw, hammer, and nail the pieces together.
• Sanding & Finishing (The Finish): Woodworkers sand each surface from coarse grit to fine grit, and top it off with a personalized creative touch.

Woodworkers learn patience and maintain focus at every turn. When a joint splits or a piece falls short, they pinpoint the issue, recalibrate, and try again. Through this process, campers cultivate problem-solving stamina and resilience that serve them far beyond the bench. Your child leaves with new confidence in handling tools, a habit of careful double-checking, and the practical knowledge to bring ideas to life from start to finish.
