Camp: Performing Arts Rising Grades: 3rd , 4th , 5th , 6th , 7th Price: $1,698/2-week session About the Performing Arts Camp TrackThe stage is set, the spotlight is waiting, the makeup palettes and brushes are laid out, and the script is open to page one. From that moment, campers are immersed in the world of performing arts. Caring counselors create a supportive, safe space and guide the way, and campers decide who they become. Alongside friends, they practice their craft, following the steps of every great performance:
Performing artists depend on each other, and so do campers, who shape every scene, song, and design as a team. Creativity grows as campers invent a character, and each choice about a walk, a voice, or a costume makes the role more believable. Those choices build decision-making skills that carry into everyday life, from planning the day to a big school project. Stepping onto a stage builds confidence. When a color is not quite right or the dance steps are off beat, campers work through the frustration, adjust, and try again, which builds perseverance. The lead counselor and fellow campers offer feedback throughout, so each camper hears what worked and what to try next. Your child will leave with a stronger speaking voice, a toolkit of performance skills, and friendships built by creating together. Program Description: Camp Broadway MyWay - Peter PanSomewhere between the first warm-up note and the final bow, a camper stops saying, “I could never…” and starts saying, “Watch this!” In DEAN’s Camp Broadway MyWay, campers become actors who come together to build a musical from first read-through to finished production. DEAN partners with the Broadway Education Alliance, a Broadway-affiliated organization, to bring its time-tested methodology, teaching theater fundamentals and the life skills performers need on and off the stage. Campers all have the opportunity to take on different parts of the show, from singing and learning choreography to curating costumes and building set elements. They can perform onstage, take a backstage role, or do both. No experience is needed. Counselors guide each step of the process. Beginners and seasoned performers are challenged together. Over two weeks, the cast prepares a 30-minute performance where families and friends fill the performing space and cheer on our actors. This hands-on Camp Broadway MyWay program teaches stage presence, vocal projection, and ensemble listening behind live musical theater, all through the story of a cast putting on its own show. The skills carry into everyday life, from the perseverance to learn a long song to the focus to see a big project through. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work alongside Navigators (rising grades 5-7) and are guided by supportive counselors as they get comfortable and ready to perform. Counselors lead vocal warm-ups, teach choreography in short sections, and walk campers through every part of the show. First-time Achievers learn the fundamentals of singing, movement, and stagecraft. Returning Achievers come back year after year to expand their skills, try a new kind of performance, or focus on a different role. Navigators (rising grades 5-7) work alongside Achievers (rising grades 3-4) and begin to have more independence while still receiving guidance from supportive counselors as they gain confidence and prepare to perform. Counselors lead vocal warm-ups, teach choreography, and walk campers through every part of the show. First-time Navigators learn the fundamentals of singing, movement, and stagecraft. Returning Navigators come back year after year to expand their skills, try a new kind of performance, or focus on a different role. H Haverford Dates:

Camp: Writing & Illustration Price: $799/week About the Writing & Illustration Camp TrackCampers start the week with a blank page and one question: “What story will you tell?” Nobody assigns a topic. Counselors guide the way, but campers make every creative choice, from the first character sketch to the final word. Campers follow the four steps working authors and illustrators follow:
Along the way, campers pitch ideas, confer with each other, and cheer on one another's progress. That planning method and the writing process give your child a tool for the reports and essays to come, and the habit of revising carries into group projects at school. After camp, we send each book to our publisher, and a professionally bound copy of your camper's book, comic, or graphic novel arrives at your home (allow at least 8+ weeks). Campers-turned-authors will leave knowing the writing process, be equipped with stronger drawing skills, a creative voice of their own, and a finished book for the family bookshelf on its way. Program Description: Comic Creators - AchieversYour child has read every comic and graphic novel on the shelf. This week, they make their own. Campers become the writers and illustrators, from picking the genre to inking the pages. Campers draw character sheets and thumbnail every page. They learn how panel size controls a scene’s pace and how speech bubbles and onomatopoeias like “BAM!” and “WHOOSH!” bring pages to life. The week ends with the camper showcase, where creators proudly display their comics and graphic novels, ready for publication. Allow 8+ weeks for your child’s bound book to arrive at home. This hands-on Graphic Novel & Comic program teaches the visual storytelling behind real comic strips, graphic novels, and manga, all through a race to the next issue. Campers learn to slow down for a steady line, fix what isn’t working, and finish something they’re proud of. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) learn comic and graphic novel basics and gain their first illustration skills. They design a hero, plan a short comic, and learn how comics tell a story. First-timers finish a short comic. Returning campers build on the skills they already have as they tackle longer comics or start a brand-new one to publish. H Haverford Dates:

Camp: Sports & Games Price: $799/week About the Sports & Games Camp TrackGathered on the field, newcomers and returning players alike gear up, ready to jump into the game. At DEAN Sports & Games, the only requirement is wanting to play. Counselors teach and step back, and campers take an active role with the calls, the cheering, and the matches. Each session runs the way athletes train for and play games:
Adjusting after a miss is how athletes and students get better at anything. Back at school, that habit shows up when a child asks for help, joins a group of unfamiliar faces, or returns to a hard problem. Along the way, campers work on encouraging a teammate who missed, taking turns, losing a point without losing their cool, and explaining a call clearly. Lead counselors and teammates give feedback and create moments of reflection so these habits get noticed and named. The culmination to the week is the moment they have all been waiting for, the Color Games, a celebration for all players to celebrate and showcase their skills. Your child will leave with a few new sports to play, confidence stepping into any group, and friendships beyond the ones they arrived with. Program Description: DEAN Multi-Sports - AchieversA huddle on a wide-open field, planning the next move. A diving catch that makes the whole team erupt in cheers. A high-five from a teammate you met this morning. Campers become teammates, first-timers and longtime athletes side by side. Every session starts with a skill to learn and counselors ready to teach and support. From dribbling and passing a ball to pulling flags in flag football to volleying with a pickleball racquet. Along the way, players build agility and coordination, encourage each other, and work through challenges as a team. The only requirement is wanting to play. Teams reshuffle all week, so every day brings new teammates and new games to learn. Counselors keep the field safe, then step back and let the games begin. At week’s end, players don their colors and walk onto the field for the Color Games, a camp-wide celebratory tournament, and head home with grass stains, a new favorite game, a renewed love of the game, and new skills to match. Achievers (rising grades 3-4): Equipment ramps up to regulation-size balls and frisbees, larger fields, bigger nets, and more complicated games such as pickleball and Capture the Flag leading the way. Camp: Machine Sewing Price: $799/week About the Machine Sewing Camp TrackThe presser foot lowers, the needle rises and falls in steady stitches, and the fabric feeds forward as your child guides it along. Over the week, campers become sewists, and fabric transforms into stuffed animals, hats, hoodies, bags, and more! Counselors guide and support campers through each technique, with safety built into every step. Campers choose the pattern, the fabric, and the finishing touches.
Sewists work side by side, reading patterns like a blueprint to see how each piece fits together. When a seam puckers or a stitch skips, they trace it back to the step that went wrong and fix it. This is where campers build patience by ripping out a crooked seam and sewing it again, and self-control by keeping the pedal slow. They collaborate by holding fabric for a neighbor and grow independent by explaining their choices to the lead counselor and peers, who offer feedback on fit and finish. The week wraps up, and sewists leave with finished pieces, machine-sewing skills, and the pride and confidence to sew. Program Description: Fashion & Machine Sewing - AchieversMachines at every seat, scissors and pins ready for action, and a whole catalog of patterns waiting to be made. Campers become sewists, building the skills to turn fabric into hats, tote bags, dresses, pajamas, stuffed animals, and much more! First-time campers learn to thread the machine, steer straight lines, and turn curves and pivots. Returning campers warm up with a refresher challenge and move ahead. From the DEAN catalog, everyone picks a pattern and fabric; then measures, cuts, pins, and sews. Fitting, hemming, and setting zippers finish each piece. At the end-of-week camper showcase, each sewist has the opportunity to proudly display their pieces or walk the runway, then take their hard work home to wear, display, or gift. Getting there meant facing challenges: ripping out a crooked seam and sewing it again took the same patience as revising an essay until it reads right. Turning pattern pieces into three-dimensional shapes takes an engineer’s planning and problem-solving eye. Working through each challenge takes perseverance, so every sewist finishes proud of creations that are entirely their own. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work closely with counselors, who demonstrate each step and support campers along the way. Campers watch, then do it themselves.

Camp: Design & Style Price: $799/week About the Design & Style Camp TrackCampers walk into DEAN Design & Style Camp and find the workspace ready for action. Fabric bolts line the shelves, thread spools stand in rows, beads and buttons are on display, and pencils and paper are ready for ideas. From that moment, campers become the designer. Counselors teach each tool, guide each step, and keep every station safe, while campers make the design decisions, embroider the fabric, pick up the crochet hook and cast on the knitting needles, design fabulous jewelry, and make the doll accessories, learning through a designer's process:
Like designers, campers gather materials and work side by side, tidying the table as they go. They choose the colors, fabrics, and trims, and work out why a seam puckers, a knot slips, or beads fall. Sometimes that means pulling out a stitch and starting over, or finding a new approach. Each challenge builds lasting habits far beyond camp: planning before you start, following steps in order, and adjusting along the way, whether the task is a multi-step math problem or a project at home. Your child will leave with safe habits for needles, scissors, and pliers, one-of-a-kind handmade pieces to wear, use, or give, and a new craft to keep practicing on their own. Program Description: Fiber Arts - AchieversFluffy wool roving, ready to be felted. Colorful yarn, waiting to be looped and woven. Campers become fiber artists, and every project begins with yarn, fabric, or thread in hand: sketch a design, knit a row, stitch an embroidered detail, shape a creature from wool, and sew it all together. The lineup changes every week, so returning campers always find something new to make. Counselors demonstrate each step, set out the materials, and stay close at every station so campers learn needles and tools safely. At the end-of-week camper showcase, each artist lays out their collection, explains how they made each piece, and takes the work home to wear, use, or even give as a gift. This hands-on DEAN Design & Style Camp program teaches the knitting, embroidery, felting, and sewing behind handmade clothing, home decor, and stuffed toys. Following a pattern, fixing a mistake in the row, and working with care builds the focus and follow-through that carry into reading directions, finishing homework, and mending a favorite shirt that now can be reused, all through making fun handmade pieces. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work with more independence, while counselors demonstrate techniques and support along the way. No experience is necessary, and skills keep building, so campers can return week after week and summer after summer to take on something new. They use real tools of fiber arts including sewing needles, embroidery hoops, needle felt, and wonder knitters. H Haverford Dates:

Every look was imagined, made, and fitted by the camper-turned-designer. Designers sketch ideas, measure, trace patterns, pin, and then hand-sew, embroider, and needle-felt their clothes and accessories. Campers may also take a first turn at the sewing machine with an instructor at the machine. Counselors teach each stitch and stay close for safe use. At the end-of-week camper showcase, designers present the full look, and the tiny models go home dressed in their handmade originals. Bring only an 18” doll, and every other material is included. This hands-on DEAN Design & Style Camp program teaches the sketching, hand sewing, and pattern making behind fashion design through a complete wardrobe, from first idea to final hem. Measuring twice, redoing a crooked seam, and keeping stitches small and even build the patience and attention to detail that carry into multi-step directions, long assignments, and sewing a button back on a favorite shirt. Explorers (rising grades 1-2) & Achievers (rising grades 3-4) share the room and work together while counselors teach each step. Designers hand-sew new outfits and stitch a sketched embroidery design. They add pom-poms and embellishments, and finish at least one complete piece. First-timers start with the basics of hand sewing, embroidery, and embellishing, and build on those skills. Program Description: Jewelry Making - AchieversEarrings that catch the eye of onlookers. A handmade bracelet gifted to your best friend. A ring ready to wear to the party. Campers become jewelry designers, launching their collection, and every piece starts with a tool in hand and counselors ready to teach and support: bending and coiling wire with pliers, stamping a message into metal, and casting a charm in clay. Along the way, they sketch ideas, plan each step, and work through challenges. At the end-of-week camper showcase, each designer proudly displays their pieces for the “oohs” and “aahs,” then takes the work home to wear, display, or give to others. Behind every piece is practice in patience and problem-solving; reshaping a wire bend until it sits right, re-tying a knot until it holds, and working out why a clasp will not close. Those habits carry into math problems, long assignments, and any project that does not work out the first time. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work with counselors, who demonstrate each step and support campers along the way. Campers watch, then do it themselves. With supervision, they move up to more advanced equipment to stamp metal, cast pendants, and sculpt charms. Practicing the safe, correct use of age-appropriate tools builds fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. H Haverford Dates:

Camp: STEAM Price: $799/week About the STEAM Camp TrackAt DEAN STEAM Camp, campers join a team of fellow innovators to ask why, test solutions, and try again when an idea fails. Counselors guide, and campers decide. Using science, technology, engineering, art and math, campers practice four steps of discovery:
Each storyline sparks curiosity and rallies campers together. They share ideas, divide tasks, and build on each other’s thinking. They weigh evidence, question results, and reason their way to answers. When a plan fails, they adapt and find a new approach. The method campers practice at DEAN STEAM continues far beyond the camp weeks. A camper who has rebuilt a failed design knows what to do when something doesn’t go as planned. Test an idea, study what happened, and adjust. Your child will leave with a sense of wonder and resilience. Program Description: Science Sleuths - AchieversGet messy. Ask why. Crack the case. Campers become science sleuths, called in to solve a mix-up at the DEAN Lab. Someone swapped the labels, spilled the jars, and left a trail of mystery powder across the floor. Three suspects were in the lab last night: Professor Fizzwell, Dr. Crumble, and lab intern Penny Potion. To crack the whodunit case, sleuths test a new substance each day and follow the same steps real scientists use: predict, test, record, and explain why. Each result adds evidence to the case file, and every investigation rules a suspect in or out. The week ends at the camper showcase with an explosive final lab test and campers naming the culprit with scientifically backed evidence. This hands-on STEAM program teaches the scientific method and basics of chemistry. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work more independently. They plan with their team, divide the jobs, and keep their own notebooks of measurements and results. They compare their attempts and explain why a test worked or didn’t before adjusting. New campers learn the full routine with coaching from counselors. Returning campers lead team steps and take on the week’s hardest challenges. H Haverford Dates:

Camp: Culinary Arts Price: $799/week About the Culinary Arts Camp TrackThe pots and pans are set and ready for campers to mix, mash, knead, and whip up delicacies they proudly take home to share. In DEAN Culinary Arts Camp, campers discover the art and science of cooking and baking. Our expert counselors guide the fun, showing campers how to run a safe, clean, and high-energy kitchen like a true culinary crew. Every camper follows the same five steps professional bakers and chefs use:
Like chefs and bakers, campers divide the jobs, prep side by side, and clean up as they go. They choose flavors and designs, taste the results, and work out what went wrong when a cake sinks or a recipe doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes that means starting over or finding a new approach. Each challenge we encounter builds habits that last a lifetime. Like writing a great essay and baking a toasty loaf of bread: careful preparation, a pinch of patience, and knowing how to adjust as you go. We turn the kitchen into a lab for confidence, focus, and creativity. Program Description: Serve It Up - AchieversMenus on the tables, napkins folded, and a hungry crowd on the way. Campers become the chefs and designers of DEAN’s hottest new restaurant. Working in teams, they choose a name, design a logo, and create the vibe, from cozy and candlelit to bright and breezy. Then they learn to cook a full 4-course meal for the menu: appetizer, soup or salad, main dish, and, of course, dessert. They read recipes, practice their skills, and take turns at every station, from chopping to plating, so everyone shares the work. They also set the tables and learn the etiquette of good service. At the end-of-week showcase, the sign flips to OPEN, and the crew serves a sampling of dishes they created and shares their restaurant concepts. This hands-on DEAN Culinary Arts Camp program teaches the teamwork, planning, and hospitality behind real dining rooms, all through a restaurant the campers create. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work in groups, watching counselors demonstrate steps along the way to doing it themselves. With counselor supervision, they use more sophisticated equipment, like blenders and hand mixers. Achievers continue building hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills by practicing proper cutting and learning more complex cooking techniques. They also learn logo design and branding concepts to create their own, how to set the tables properly, practice good service etiquette, and even create a blueprint for their interior design plans. Program Description: Serve It Up - ExplorersMenus on the tables, napkins folded, and a hungry crowd on the way. Explorers (rising grades 1-2) work in groups on simpler recipes while counselors demonstrate each step and read the recipe with them. They learn about ingredients through their senses and build hand-eye coordination by practicing how to cut properly and safely with age-appropriate tools. With counselor help, they learn beginner design concepts for creating a restaurant logo, basics of setting the tables, serving etiquette, and even a little interior design.

Program Description: Space Station Rescue - AchieversThe Case of the Runaway Rover. Campers become astronauts aboard Space Station Orbit-7, and the alarm is sounding. Moon rocks drift across the lab, the cargo lift is jammed, and the rover drives off. Something has thrown the station’s forces out of balance. The crew must find the cause and fix it fast. To get the station running again, astronauts need to figure out how to steer the drifting moon rocks with pushes and pulls, free the cargo lift with levers and pulleys, and catch the rover by calculating its speed and building ramps to block its path. Every repair unlocks a clue and a new tool for their astronaut kit. As the clues add up, the team gets closer to tracing the trouble to its source. This hands-on STEAM program teaches the physics and engineering behind real machines like cranes, elevators, and Mars rovers, all through a space mystery.

Each storyline sparks curiosity and rallies campers together. They share ideas, divide tasks, and build on each other’s thinking. Test an idea, study what happened, and adjust. Your child will leave with a sense of wonder and resilience. Program Description: The Lost Treasure of Coral Island - AchieversLegend says the gold is still there. Campers become treasure hunters searching Coral Island for Captain Silverhook’s lost gold. The old pirate hid it deep inside a sea cave beneath a dormant volcano that is now waking up. The rumbles from below of the impending eruption have blocked the path. The lookout tower topples, the dock sinks into the sand, and the only crossing has crumbled into the sea. To clear the way, campers test why triangles and arches hold weight, how a wide base stops a wobble, how to build for shaking ground, and how to sketch a plan first. Each solved repair earns a piece of the captain’s torn map. Then comes the biggest challenge: a new bridge strong enough to carry the heavy chest, steady in ocean gales, and solid when the volcano starts to rumble. The week ends with campers crossing safely, claiming the chest, and presenting their designs at a camper showcase. This hands-on STEAM program teaches the engineering and architecture behind real structures like the pyramids and the Golden Gate Bridge, all through a treasure hunt. Campers are off to explore Culinary Arts, Outdoor Adventure, Innovation Lab, and Art, learning new skills, making new friends, and having a blast. DEAN Trailblazers Day Camp rotates each camper through four specialties daily. Activity Specialists lead each one, teaching tools, kitchen, and outdoor safety through fun and engaging activities. Trailblazers is built on the four pillars of DEAN to guide campers as they learn and grow across every activity:
Throughout the day, no matter the activity, campers get to try, adjust, and improve. In everyday life, that habit makes trying something new feel exciting instead of scary. Campers build perseverance by sticking with a challenge and working through it, and resilience by starting over after a plan fails. Your child will leave Trailblazers with newfound confidence, wonderful memories, and skills to continue to build on. Program Description: Trailblazers - AchieversMud, paint, flour, scissors, tape, pots and pans, sunshine and new friends. Achievers are ready to take on new challenges and come up with bigger and bolder ideas in Art, Innovation Lab, Culinary Arts, and Outdoor Adventure every day. Each finished challenge unlocks a harder one. Achievers navigate with a compass, design a multi-part machine and revise it until it runs, build a sculpture, and bake a batch of soft pretzels from scratch. Projects change every week and skills build on the last, so returning campers keep reaching for something new year after year. Counselors coach campers through each challenge. Instead of doing it for them, they teach tool, kitchen, and trail safety. At the end-of-week showcase, campers present their machines, share what they baked, and explain what they changed along the way. This hands-on Trailblazers Achievers program teaches strategy, problem-solving, and communication behind park rangers, engineers, illustrators, and pastry chefs, all through an expedition.
Program Description: Trailblazers - DiscoverersOne deep breath at the door, a counselor’s warm hello, and the sight of colorful art supplies, exciting camp games, and beautiful surroundings are all it takes to help a camper feel ready to go! Campers set off daily to discover what they will learn in Art, Innovation Lab, Culinary Arts, and Outdoor Adventure. They paint with bold colors and stack towers taller than themselves. They don aprons and combine flavors and textures to whip up a delicious snack. Outside, they climb, play, run, and learn new games. Water activities run every day, weather permitting. Projects change every week, and new skills build on the previous ones, so returning campers keep discovering something new. Counselors greet every camper by name and stay close through every activity. They guide campers through taking turns and playing with friends. By the end of the week, campers have plenty to share. At the showcase, they proudly display what they made and did, from artwork to experiments. This play-based Discoverers program builds strong hands, steady balance, and curious minds. Camp: Woodworking Price: $799/week About the Woodworking Camp TrackNo time is wasted in the DEAN woodworking shop. After a safety and tool demonstration, your child starts building their first project by clamping a board to the bench, picking up a pull saw, and making the first cut. They are on their way! Throughout the week, counselors stay close by to guide and instruct, but campers choose what to build and make every cut themselves. At our camp, your child works like professional woodworkers, following four steps from rough board to finished project:
Woodworkers learn patience and maintain focus at every turn. When a joint splits or a piece falls short, they pinpoint the issue, recalibrate, and try again. Through this process, campers cultivate problem-solving stamina and resilience that serve them far beyond the bench. Your child leaves with new confidence in handling tools, a habit of careful double-checking, and the practical knowledge to bring ideas to life from start to finish. Program Description: Woodworking - AchieversSawdust flies, a pull-saw bites into the wood, and a tabletop ring toss game takes shape on the bench, ready for its first ringer. Never held a saw? Welcome. Already comfortable with tools? Pull up a stool. Whether new to the woodshop or a seasoned builder, campers pick from the project catalog, which begins with learning to hammer and nail to our most ambitious pieces. Counselors work alongside campers, but each camper chooses what to make from an approved catalog and does the work. Campers become woodworkers in the DEAN shop. From measuring to sawing, every finished project adds a new skill. This hands-on DEAN Woodworking Camp program teaches tool safety, spatial reasoning, and craftsmanship behind fitting pieces together, sanding projects smooth, and adding personal embellishments. At the end-of-week showcase, woodworkers show friends and counselors what they made, and then projects are ready to make their way home. Whatever your child’s experience, this hands-on DEAN Woodworking Camp program for rising grades 3-7 teaches the planning, measuring, cutting, and joining skills behind real furniture and home goods, through catalog projects or a design of your child’s own. Achievers (rising grades 3-4) work with hand tools only: a pull saw for cutting, an egg beater drill for clean holes, and a hammer, nails, and glue to hold it all together. First-time Achievers start with one foundational project to learn their tools, then pick their next challenge, like a birdhouse or a serving tray. Returning Achievers brush up fast, then choose their own project from the catalog, such as a toolbox or an 18" doll bed. Advanced Achievers dream up a piece of their own, and the lead counselor reviews the plan before the first cut. Skills carry over from summer to summer, so every camper comes back ready to take on something harder. H Haverford Dates:

Camper Readiness & Self-Management
DEAN's group-based camp environment works best when campers can manage basic daily routines independently. While our team members are always available to provide reminders and support, campers should generally be able to:
- Use the bathroom independently (fully toilet-trained)
- Eat and drink without direct assistance
- Manage their own clothing (dressing, changing for water activities)
- Understand and follow group expectations (staying with counselors, transitioning easily between activities)
- Communicate their needs to team members when they need help
"Fully toilet-trained" means your child can independently:
- Recognize when they need to use the bathroom
- Manage their clothing on their own
- Clean themselves properly
- Wash their hands afterward
We know accidents can happen, and our caring team members are always available to offer gentle reminders and support. In general, campers should be comfortable managing bathroom routines without direct assistance.
-
What's the minimum age for each specialty program?
Check out the “Programs + Dates” tab on this page. Each program description lists which age groups it is available to.
-
What is my camper's correct age group placement?
Age groupings are based on the grade a camper is rising into in the fall of the coming school year.
- Discoverers: rising Pre-K 4 and Kindergarten
- Campers must be 4 years old by June 1, 2027
- Explorers: rising 1st and 2nd graders
- Achievers: rising 3rd and 4th graders
- Navigators: rising 5th through 7th graders
- CITs: rising 8th through 10th graders
- Discoverers: rising Pre-K 4 and Kindergarten
-
What's the difference between ‘Trailblazers’ and ‘Specialty’ camp tracks at DEAN?
Trailblazers is DEAN's variety day camp track, with a curated rotation of activities such as STEAM, art, culinary creations, sports and games. Specialty programs focus on a single area, such as woodworking, machine sewing, fiber arts, jewelry, or culinary arts, for campers who want to dive deeper in one skill area.
-
Do campers need prior experience to join a specialty program?
We welcome campers of all experience levels, from beginner to advanced! Our counselors are equipped to guide campers of all skill levels, supported by a curriculum with scaffolded supports built right in. We create a no-pressure environment where everyone can freely explore new skills and continue building them at their own pace. It's all about discovery and fun; no experience is needed!
-
How does my rising 8th-10th grader join the CIT (Counselor in Training) program?
Our CIT program is for rising 8th through 10th graders at our Haverford College location. CITs learn leadership skills by assisting counselors and supporting younger campers. CITs must apply. The application is coming soon and will be linked here. Email deanteam@deancamps.com with questions and a team member will help.
-
Can I request that my camper be moved into an age-group or program they aren’t eligible for yet?
DEAN does not permit campers to join programs outside their designated age-groupings. Some programs, including machine sewing and woodworking, are only available to rising third graders and up to maintain skill readiness and safety protocols. Programs are designed by our in-house curriculum team to be age-appropriate and engaging.
A Day at DEAN
-
What does a typical day look like?
Your camper’s specific daily schedule will be provided in your welcome email! Daily schedules vary slightly by program and age group. Below is a sample schedule from Haverford College Trailblazers, summer 2026. Please contact the office with any specific questions about your camper’s daily schedule.
Sample Schedule: Trailblazers Summer 2026
- 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.: Flexible drop-off and DEAN Zone activities (a selection of games, crafts, and more!)
- 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.: Morning assembly and transition to first activity
- 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.: First activity period and snack
- 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Second activity period
- 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Lunch and pool or recess break
- 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.: Third activity period
- 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.: Final activity period
- 3:00 to 3:15 p.m.: Afternoon assembly
- 3:15 to 3:30 p.m.: Snack

-
What is ‘DEAN Zone’?
DEAN Zone is our extended programming at the start and end of each camp day. During DEAN Zone, campers choose what they want to do while families drop off or pick up any time that works for them! Morning DEAN Zone runs from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. Afternoon DEAN Zone runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Both are included in camp tuition.
Campers choose from daily activities such as outdoor games, arts and crafts, and an indoor chill-zone for reading, board games and cards. Options change throughout the week, so there is always something new to try.
-
What can I expect my camper to bring home at the end of the week?
What your camper brings home varies by program and by the projects they work on throughout the week! Many programs include handmade creations. Campers in many of our specialty programs may take home an array of keepsake projects. In Trailblazers and Sports programs, some projects may be collaborative, used as part of a camp Showcase, or focused more on the experience and skills learned than on a finished take-home item. We encourage families to ask their camper what they created, tried, and learned during the week.
-
What are Wacky Wednesdays and Fun Fridays?
Each week of camp, our team members plan a “Wacky Wednesday” dress-up theme day and a “Fun Friday” event. All of our theme days and events are listed on your camp calendar.
-
Does my child have to participate in the Friday Showcase?
We never force your child to do anything they are uncomfortable doing. However, we do encourage them to participate behind the scenes if taking center stage makes them uncomfortable. For example, they can help the other campers get ready for the showcase, they can write the scripts for the runway, they can ask another camper to model their creations, or support in any number of creative ways.
-
Do campers get a t-shirt?
Yes! Every camper receives one DEAN t-shirt, handed out on the first Monday of their first week of camp. Please be sure to provide your camper’s t-shirt size when filling out camper forms at registration.
Registration & Changes
-
How do I check availability for a specific week before registering?
The DEAN Registration Portal (launching January 2027) reflects the most up-to-date session availability. Camp schedules and program information are available in the Programs + Dates section of this page. Session availability is reflected in the registration system.
-
Can I switch which week my camper attends?
Yes, as long as space is available. Switching weeks is free until June 1, 2027. After June 1, a $50 Change Fee applies for each week moved. Email deanteam@deancamps.com with your camper’s current and requested weeks. Please send change requests Monday through Friday during office hours so a team member can assist you.
-
Can I add another week after my initial registration?
Yes, as long as space allows. Rates are tiered by the date you register, so a week added later is priced at the rate in effect at that time, not the rate from your initial registration. Call us before you register, and we’ll update your multi-week savings to cover all of your camper’s weeks.
You can add camp through your DEAN Registration Portal (launching January 2027), or contact the office at deanteam@deancamps.com with your camper’s requested weeks. Please send requests Monday through Friday during office hours so a team member can assist you.
-
How do I request my camper be grouped with a specific friend?
Email deanteam@deancamps.com with both campers' names and the week, preferably before the session starts. You will receive a confirmation reply from the office.
-
Do you have a waitlist?
Every DEAN session has a waitlist, which you can choose to join in the DEAN Registration Portal (launching January 2027). If a session shows as unavailable when you try to register, that almost always means the session is at capacity. When you join the waitlist, a team member can contact you right away if a spot opens.
-
How do I update my camper's emergency contact information?
In the DEAN Registration Portal, click “Manage People and Household Information” at the bottom of the home page. Navigate to the “Household Details” tab and update up to three emergency contacts in the form at the bottom of the page.
-
How do I add or change who's on my carpool or authorized pickup list?
Email or call the Haverford office. Team members will only release a camper to someone on the authorized list. This information was originally submitted in your camper forms at registration.
Haverford Office: deanteam@deancamps.com, 610-660-9600
-
How do I report that my camper will be absent for the day?
Email or call the Haverford office as early as possible so team members can account for your camper. Please note that we are not able to refund or credit missed days, including days missed due to illness.
Haverford Office: deanteam@deancamps.com, 610-660-9600
-
How do I follow up on a project or a personal belonging left behind at camp?
Email deanteam@deancamps.com with the program name and week. DEAN team members will check with your camper’s instructor and arrange pickup.

What discounts and savings does DEAN offer?
In addition to our tiered pricing savings, the savings below are applied at checkout:
- Multi-Week Savings: 3% off for 3 to 4 weeks, 6% off for 5 to 7 weeks, and 10% off for 8 or more weeks. Savings are based on the total weeks each camper attends and come off your locked-in rate. A 2-Week Session counts as 2 weeks, and a 4-day holiday week counts as one week. Adding weeks later? Call us before you register, and we’ll update your savings to cover all of your camper’s weeks.
- Multi-Child Savings: Your child with the highest registration total pays the full rate. Each additional sibling registered for Summer 2027 gets 5% off their total registration. Multi-child savings stack with multi-week savings and are applied after them, and they apply to siblings registered anytime during the season.
- First-time PreK-K Discoverer: 10% off that child’s entire registration for a camper rising Pre-K 4 or Kindergarten who has not attended DEAN before.
- Referral Program: Give a friend $50 off. Get $50 in camp credit. Your referral code is provided in your registration confirmation email.
-
Is financial assistance available?
DEAN is a for-profit camp and does not offer traditional financial aid or scholarships. In an effort to keep camp accessible, our tiered registration pricing gives families who register early access to lower rates. Available discounts are listed at checkout so you can see your savings before you pay, and installment plans are available upon request. Questions about pricing tiers, discounts, or a payment plan? Email deanteam@deancamps.com.
-
Can I use a payment installment plan for my camp balance?
To set up an installment plan, please email deanteam@deancamps.com or call our office at 610-660-9600. Installment plans are available through June 1, 2027.
Your next steps: Log into your registration portal and select "Make a Payment." Enter your first payment to lock in your registration. E-check is recommended to avoid a 3% credit card fee. After your first payment is processed, a DEAN team member will set up your remaining installments as auto-pay, so you do not need to do anything further.

What goes into the cost of camp?
We know choosing the right summer camp involves careful consideration of cost alongside the safety and quality of programming. We want to be transparent about our pricing structure and assure you that every dollar spent is an investment in an enriching and memorable experience for your child.
DEAN’s weekly rate is all-inclusive, and it is tiered by registration date. Families who plan early get instant savings, and that early planning helps us cover staffing, programming, and logistics well before summer begins.
Your weekly rate goes toward the things that make camp safe, special, and fun:
- Our team: We invest in training for every team member and complete thorough background checks, so you can trust the people caring for your camper.
- Our programs: DEAN programming is unique, and we invest heavily in the supplies and materials behind it. There are no additional supply fees.
- Our curriculum: Our curriculum is written by educators with backgrounds in classroom management and educational principles, so every week is hands-on and age-appropriate.
- Breakfast, lunch & snacks: As part of our commitment to providing a seamless and worry-free experience, we include breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages in camp tuition. With this inclusive approach, you can have peace of mind knowing your child will receive nourishing, yummy meals throughout their time at DEAN.
- Extended Hours for Your Convenience: We know your days are full, so we built a camp day that fits around work, family, and everything in between. Camp activities run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Before and after main activities, campers enjoy DEAN Zone, our extended programming where they choose what they want to do. You can drop off any time from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and pick up any time from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. It is all included in one price, with no extra fees.
No matter when you register, every week reflects the same commitment: great programming, caring team members, and a safe, welcoming place to grow.
-
What's DEAN’s refund policy if I need to cancel?
- Before June 1, 2027: Receive a refund, minus a $100 Cancellation Fee, per camper and program enrolled.
- After June 1, 2027: Payments are non-refundable. Families may switch programs if space allows or convert their payment to a camp credit.
-
Can I get a refund for a day or two my camper misses during the week?
We are not able to refund or credit days a camper misses, including days missed due to illness. If your plans change before camp starts, please email deanteam@deancamps.com or call 610-660-9600 and a team member will review your options.
-
What happens if DEAN cancels a program or camp is disrupted?
If DEAN cancels a program, or camp cannot run because of an event outside our control, we will issue a full refund or a camp credit, whichever you prefer.
-
How do camp credits work?
A camp credit can be used toward any future DEAN program or transferred to another camper. Credits are good for one year. A credit issued in 2027 must be used by August 31, 2028. Your credit is applied automatically at checkout.
-
How do I get proof of payment for FSA or dependent care reimbursement?
Families can log into the registration portal to download an account statement or email our office directly at deanteam@deancamps.com. Our camp office can also email a breakdown showing dates attended, program name, and amount paid per session or by sibling on request. If you need exact attended dates rather than only the week, please request that specifically.

What to Bring
-
What should a camper bring daily?
A backpack, water bottle, bathing suit, towel and goggles (for swimming and/or water play), a change of clothes, and sunscreen. Bug repellent is optional, but sometimes our outdoor areas can be buggy. Please label all camper belongings properly.
-
Sunscreen policy
Campers should apply sunscreen at home, before coming to camp, and bring sunscreen with them to camp to reapply throughout the day. Campers must apply sunscreen before outdoor activities. Families send campers with labeled sunscreen daily, and team members provide reminders and can assist only younger campers with application.
-
What items should stay at home?
Trading and playing cards, squishies, fidgets, stuffed animals, toys, game systems, tablets, electronics, and items with sentimental value should always stay home. DEAN provides what campers need for the day and cannot guarantee the safety of personal valuables.
-
What's the cell phone policy?
Cell phones, smart watches, tablets and other personal electronic devices are not permitted during the camp day. If a camper is seen using one, team members will ask them to put the device away. If devices are a chronic concern, DEAN will reach out to the family to discuss device management. DEAN cannot guarantee the safety of personal valuables.
-
What to bring for swim and water play
- Bathing suit
- Towel
- Goggles (optional)
- Swim gear bag (optional)
- Pool shoes, e.g., Crocs or sandals (optional)
- Change of clothes for after swim or water play
- Sunscreen, applied at home and packed to reapply during the day
- Water bottle, which can be refilled at water stations across camp
Swimming and water play are completely optional. Campers who prefer not to take part can choose another recess activity. Our youngest campers (rising Pre-K and Kindergarten) do not use the pool, but instead enjoy water play like slip-and-slide, water twisters, and water games, so please send a bathing suit and towel for them too. Campers change for water activities on their own, so we recommend a suit and clothes they can manage themselves.
Food & Allergies
-
What are meals and snacks like?
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks are included in your camper’s tuition. Here is what dining looks like at Haverford College.
Snacks and drinks
- Snacks are served in the morning and afternoon, with a late-afternoon snack in DEAN Zone. Examples include granola bars, applesauce, goldfish, and pretzels.
- Gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free snack options are available daily.
- Water stations are located across camp, and campers can refill bottles anytime.
Haverford College Dining Center
Haverford College Dining Center is an “All You Care to Eat” facility with a variety of menu options to fit camper preferences. Typical offerings include hot and cold breakfast and a variety of lunch stations serving hot entrées, pizza, a salad bar, a make-your-own sandwich station, and fresh fruit and veggie options. Vegan and vegetarian choices are available daily. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. Campers eat directly in the Dining Center, and counselors supervise during all meal times to keep meals at camp safe and fun.
-
My camper has a serious food allergy. How will they be supported at camp?
Please list all allergies and dietary needs on your camper’s medical form at registration. DEAN reviews camper medical forms before camp so health & safety team members, site leadership, and designated counselors are aware of allergies, precautions, and emergency instructions.
- At meal and snack times, designated team members help campers review this information and identify appropriate food options.
- DEAN and our site partners ensure daily snack options for vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free dietary restrictions.
- DEAN culinary arts programs do not use nuts, and DEAN snacks do not contain nuts.
- If your camper requires an EpiPen or other emergency medication, it must be listed on the medical form and all required medication authorization forms, including signed doctor’s orders, must be completed before camp. Give medication to the nurse on day one. It cannot be kept in a backpack.
-
What if my camper has a gluten allergy?
DEAN can support campers with gluten sensitivities. Please note that despite our careful efforts, we cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free environment. Tell us about any gluten concern before camp begins via your camper’s medical form or reach out to us directly at deanteam@deancamps.com.
For campers with a gluten sensitivity:
- Dining: Campers can choose safe items from the dining center. The daily sandwich bar and salad bar always have gluten-free options.
- Haverford’s Dining Center has a dedicated gluten-free room with additional options.
- Snacks: We keep gluten-free snacks on hand, such as MadeGood bars, applesauce, and gluten-free veggie straws.
- Support: A counselor walks your camper through the dining hall on day one and is available to help at lunch all week. We do this for every camper with a food sensitivity.
- Culinary arts programs: Your camper’s instructor will have gluten-free recipes and ingredients ready. Kitchens share bowls, utensils, and equipment, so cross-contact can still happen. Campers do not share food, and they take their creations home.
If your camper has celiac disease or a severe, life-threatening gluten allergy, please let us know at deanteam@deancamps.com or 610-660-9600, and list it on your camper’s medical form. Cross-contact with gluten can happen in dining and culinary arts spaces, so we cannot guarantee zero risk of accidental cross-contamination. We are always happy to discuss which programs and supports are best for your camper.
- Dining: Campers can choose safe items from the dining center. The daily sandwich bar and salad bar always have gluten-free options.
-
My camper has dietary needs or needs extra support at meal or snack time. Who do I contact?
We are happy to work together. Please reach out directly to our office: 610-660-9600, deanteam@deancamps.com. We will connect you with your camp director.
Health & Safety
-
Medication at Camp
If your camper needs (or may need) medication at camp, list all emergency medication (EpiPen, inhaler), prescription medication, OTC medication, and related medical information on your camper’s medical form during registration. Please only include medication your camper will need administered while at camp. Provide a completed medication authorization form with the doctor's written orders and signature. Health & Safety team members cannot administer any medication without the required authorization and instructions on file. On the first day, give medication directly to the camp nurse or designated Health & Safety team member at drop-off. Medication should not be sent in a camper's backpack.
-
Where is my child's inhaler, EpiPen, or emergency medication kept during the camp day?
Your camper's counselors safely carry their inhaler, EpiPen, or other emergency medication in a labeled med-pack. The med-pack stays with your camper throughout the day, held by the lead counselor, and travels with the group between activities and locations so emergency medication remains accessible at all times. Medication is kept at camp while your camper is enrolled and returned at the end of each week unless otherwise communicated.
-
How are injuries and illness handled? Is there an on-site nurse?
A health director or on-site nurse is available on campus for medical needs, and all camp leaders are First Aid and CPR certified. Minor injuries such as cuts and scrapes receive immediate care from trained team members. For serious incidents, the nurse/health director and site directors facilitate DEAN's emergency action plan. Detailed health forms are maintained for every camper, and families are contacted immediately for any medical issue.
-
What if my camper is sick, does DEAN have an illness policy?
Keep your camper home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or another contagious illness, until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours without medication. DEAN follows current health guidance and will contact families if symptoms develop during the day.
-
What's the weather and inclement weather policy?
DEAN has contingency plans for bad weather and works with the host campus to move programming indoors when needed. In cases of severe weather, DEAN can cancel programming before camp starts for the day. Heat and air quality conditions are also monitored closely, with frequent water breaks and indoor activities during extreme heat.
-
What happens in an emergency, is there an evacuation plan?
DEAN follows the host campus's established protocols. Site Directors and team members are all trained to facilitate DEAN's emergency action plan. Families are contacted immediately by text, email, and phone.
-
Water Activities & Swimming
Campers in first grade and up can choose to participate in a 30-minute daily swim period. All swimming is supervised by certified lifeguards and DEAN team members. Before entering the pool, each camper completes a short swim assessment so our lifeguards can ensure campers can safely swim in the deep end.
-
What does the swim test require?
Campers must complete a swim assessment so our lifeguards can ensure campers can safely swim in the deep end of the pool. The swim test has two components: 1) Swim the length of the pool (approximately 25 meters) unassisted using any swim stroke with their face in the water, and 2) Tread water for 60 seconds, unassisted, while keeping the head above water.
Camper Support
-
How are anxious, shy or homesick campers supported?
Counselors are trained to support campers through tough moments with quiet breaks, buddy connections, and check-ins. If concerns persist, families are called to discuss support options. Counselors use buddy systems, small-group activities, and regular check-ins to help campers navigate new social situations. Counselors work individually with campers who need extra support settling in, and group placement can be adjusted when needed to support a camper's comfort and transition.
-
How does DEAN handle conflicts between campers?
Counselors actively monitor group dynamics and use age-appropriate conflict resolution. If issues persist or warrant more serious attention, families are contacted so team members and families can partner on a solution.
-
Does DEAN accommodate campers with autism, ADHD, an IEP, or other needs?
We welcome families and campers of all abilities, and want every camper to be both safe and successful at DEAN. To make sure camp at DEAN is the right fit, please reach out to request our family handbook, which describes our camp environment and policies.
While our counselors are trained camp team members, they are not special education teachers, therapists, or licensed clinicians. Please note, DEAN is not able to provide one-on-one aides or specialized behavioral or medical support. If you have any questions before you register, please review the handbook and contact us about your child’s unique needs. We are happy to walk through our daily schedule, group sizes, and activity pace.
Simple adjustments we offer include:
- Advance notice before transitions
- Quiet spaces for breaks
- A consistent counselor or group when possible
- Check-ins with families during the week
Families are welcome to arrange for outside providers (e.g., SLP, OT, PT, LCSW) or personal aides at their own cost, with advance approval from DEAN and completed background clearances by providers.
-
How do I request a callback from management about an issue that hasn't been resolved?
To reach camp site leadership, email deanteam@deancamps.com and ask for a callback, or call 610-660-9600.
-
How does DEAN collect and use family feedback?
We take your feedback seriously, so we send two short surveys each week to hear about your camper’s experience:
- Tuesday (mid-week): so we can address anything before the week is over
- Friday (end of week): to collect your final thoughts
A team member personally replies to every mid-week survey within one business day to thank you for your response. Your responses guide how we improve camp each week and each summer, and we appreciate the time you take to share with us.
If your survey response shares a concern, we send it directly to your site director. Site leadership will review it and follow up with you promptly. We will keep working with you until we find a resolution that feels right for your family.

DEAN Camps Code of Conduct
We're dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and fun environment where campers can grow, explore, and thrive. By registering with DEAN Camps you and your camper(s) agree to follow our Code of Conduct.
For Campers
- Show Kindness and Respect: Treat fellow campers, counselors, and team members with care and courtesy.
- Be a Team Player: Work cooperatively during activities and support others.
- Take Responsibility: Follow camp rules, respect camp property, and leave spaces better than we found them.
- Embrace New Experiences: Camp is a place to step outside of one's comfort zone with courage and curiosity. Challenges and frustrations are part of the growth process!
- Practice Good Sportsmanship: Be gracious in victory and defeat, and celebrate others' achievements.
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Listen to counselors, stay with your group, and use equipment properly.
For Parents and Guardians
- Support: Encourage your camper to participate fully and approach challenges with a growth mindset.
- Communicate Respectfully: Great communication goes both ways. We're committed to addressing your feedback and concerns with care and professionalism, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy to our team.
- Trust the Process: Learning new skills and making new friends sometimes means stepping into the unknown, and that can feel uncomfortable. The moments when your camper feels challenged, frustrated, or uncertain? Those are often the exact moments when real growth is happening. Trust our counselors to support and guide them through it, and trust your camper to rise to the challenge. However, if you ever have concerns, we're just a call away.
