The DEAN Fellowship is an immersive leadership experience for high school students seeking hands-on professional development in a dynamic, fun summer camp environment. In a world where meaningful hands-on work experiences for teenagers are increasingly rare, DEAN’s Fellowship program offers something exceptional: the chance to develop real leadership skills while making a genuine impact on a vibrant community, all while building lasting friendships with others who share your drive and curiosity.

This program is all about bridging the gap between being a camper and joining our team of counselors by preparing our fellows to develop essential leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while gaining valuable experience working with children and adult professionals. 

Over the three-week intensive, under the guidance of DEAN's Fellow Advisor, fellows rotate through various camp departments, shadowing instructors, supporting operations, and solving real challenges as they arise. Safety is always front and center, giving campers the responsibility to handle tools the right way while staying focused on their work.

Along the way, they’ll explore the design process—sketching, planning, and problem-solving to bring their ideas to life. By week’s end, each camper brings home hand-crafted wooden projects they built from start to finish, a true showcase of their craftsmanship and creativity. Note: Large power tools will not be used in this camp.

Ready for the next challenge? Woodworking Sr. challenges older campers to take their skills to the next level with more advanced techniques and complex builds. Alongside expert instructors, they’ll refine precision in measuring and cutting, learn to read and apply detailed scale drawings, and expand their toolset to include supervised power drills. Campers step into the full design process—planning, problem-solving, and adapting as they work through challenges.

Responsibility deepens as they manage advanced tools, resilience grows as they push through tough design problems, and creativity shines as they add personal touches to their work. By the end of the week, each camper brings home a polished wooden project that proves their craftsmanship, independence, and pride in what they’ve achieved.
