WOODWORKING CAMP

calendar1 WEEK SESSIONS

studentGRADES : RISING 3RD-8TH

GET EARLY ACCESS

In DEAN’s Woodworking Camp, campers discover the satisfaction of building with their hands while turning plain wood into functional projects they’ll be proud to bring home. From birdhouses and model sailboats to soapbox derby cars, each creation gives campers the chance to problem-solve, try new techniques, and celebrate their progress. With guidance from skilled instructors and access to age-appropriate tools like pull saws, egg beater drills, and block planes, burgeoning builders learn to approach challenges with creativity and perseverance. Along the way, they develop responsibility in handling tools and materials, collaboration as they share ideas with peers, and resilience as they turn setbacks into successes.

Curriculum is thoughtfully adapted for each age group, with techniques and independence progressing from foundational skills in younger grades to more complex challenges as campers mature.

SKILLS & TECHNIQUES

Each week, campers engage in hands-on building projects, learning key skills and mindsets:

      • Foundation Skills: Measuring, sawing, drilling, planning, sanding, and joining pieces together
      • Technical Abilities: Exploring design choices, experimenting with structural integrity, and finishing surfaces for both form and function while building precision and patience

As they build and create, campers strengthen essential character skills:

      • Collaboration: Sharing ideas and techniques with fellow builders
      • Resilience and Self-Regulation: Developing focus through detailed work and problem-solving when challenges arise

By the end of the program, every camper goes home with original projects that reflect both their growing craftsmanship and confidence.

WOODWORKING ACHIEVERS (3RD-4TH)

Roll up your skills, it’s time to build!

Woodworking Achievers invites campers to design and build hands-on projects while learning techniques that challenge them to think, plan, and problem-solve like makers. With guidance from experienced instructors, campers step through the full design process by planning their projects, measuring carefully, and adjusting their approach when challenges pop up.

Responsibility grows as campers care for tools and materials, perseverance strengthens as they work through tricky steps, and creativity shines as they add personal details to their designs. They practice reading simple plans, making accurate cuts, and safely using tools, building confidence as they see their ideas take shape piece by piece.

By the end of the week, campers proudly present their finished projects at a Friday showcase, sharing what they built and how they built it before heading home with a polished wooden creation and a strong sense of accomplishment.

WOODWORKING NAVIGATORS (5TH-8TH)

Turn ideas into reality with real tools and real skills!

Woodworking for Navigators equips older campers to design and construct complex projects by continuously advancing techniques that challenge them to take their skills to the next level. Alongside expert instructors, campers step into the full design process by planning, problem-solving, and adapting as they work.

Responsibility deepens as campers manage advanced tools, resilience grows as they work through design challenges, and creativity shines as they add personal touches to their projects. They’ll refine precision in measuring and cutting, learn to read and apply detailed scale drawings, and expand their toolset to include power tools such as drills and jigsaws, all under the guidance of trained counselors.

By the end of each session, campers proudly present their finished work at a Friday showcase, sharing what they designed and built before taking home a polished wooden project that reflects their craftsmanship, independence, and pride in what they’ve achieved.
